Late Arrival at school

When your child arrives late at school, he / she misses the teacher's instructions and the introduction to the lesson.  Your child may also feel embarrassed to enter the classroom late.

Minutes late per day:                    Equals days' worth of teaching lost in a year:

5 minutes                                       3.4 days

10 minutes                                     6.9 days

15 minutes                                     10.3 days

20 minutes                                     13.8 days

30 minutes                                     20.7 days

Any child who is late for school, will have the minutes they are late entered into their record so that a report can be run for parents to see.

If your child is not in school by 9.15am, a call will be made to find out the reason for their absence.  If a message is left and there is no response within 15 minutes, we will call the next contact on the list until we are able to contact someone.

Our Attendance Policy states that all children that arrive late, must report with their parent the the school office where the reason for lateness is recorded.  Children are expected to arrive at the time set by the school.

Attendance Percentages

The school year consists of 190 days.  The following table shows a guide to the percentage of attendance your child has reached for the school year.

100%   -   0 days off school  - Perfection

99%    -   Equates to 2 days off school each year - Excellent

97%    -   Equates to 5 days off school each year - Good

95%   -    Equates to 10 days off school each year - Slight concern

90%   -    Equates to 20 days off school each year - Concerned

85%   -    Equates to 30 days off school each year - Very Concerned

Our Attendance Policy states that parents have a legal duty to ensure that their children attend school regularly and arrive on time.  Regular attendance is essential to their all round development and they should be allowed to take full advantage of educational opportunities available to them in order to make good progress in their learning.  Poor attendance undermines their education's attainment and progress and, sometimes, puts children at risk by encouraging anti social behaviour.

If your child is ill, please contact the school office on the first day, and every day thereafter, until they are back to school, by phone (01795 521362), email ( or by using Parentmail.  When they return to school, please also send a note explaining why they have been absent.

Our Attendance policy states that it is a parent's responsibility to contact the school on the first day their child is absent.  This is a safeguarding issue requirement so that all parties know that your child is safe and their whereabouts is known.  Parents should regularly update the school and inform the school when their child is returning.
